EOTech XPS vs EXPS Models & Pricing
The EOTech XPS and EXPS series share many submodel similarities. Within the XPS and EXPS Series you will find the XPS2 and XPS3 and the EXPS2 and EXPS3. If a model ends with a “2” it is a non-nightvision model if it ends with a “3” it is a nightvision compatible model. When you drill down further, there are more submodels of the XPS2, XPS3, EXPS2, and EXPS3 but they are going to be based on their housing colors, reticle colors, and reticle style.
In general the EXPS series of optics will be more than the XPS series in terms of price.

EOTech XPS vs EXPS - Mounting Style, Button Placement, & Co-Witness
The XPS and EXPS Series are all intended to mount on picatinny rails. The EXPS Series features a quick disconnect mount and a 1/3 co-witness. The XPS Series has a regular screw clamp mount and is an absolute co-witness.
Below is an example between an absolute and lower 1/3 co-witness. An absolute co-witness will put the dot directly in line with your iron sights. A lower 1/3 co-witness will put the dot a little higher than your iron sights. The benefits of a lower 1/3 co-witness are that your iron sights will obstruct less of your view, and you will not need to duck your head down as much.

The XPS Series has the buttons located on the rear of the optic, the EXPS has buttons located on the side of the optic.
This is personal preference, but in use side buttons are usually more convenient. If you are using a magnifier for example and you have it engaged or even disengaged, tapping on the rear buttons can be difficult as they may be obstructed depending on your magnifier and mount dimensions.
If you don’t plan on running a magnifier, or anything else behind your optic, then side vs rear buttons may not be an issue at all for you.
EOTech XPS vs EXPS Specs - Weight, Battery, Battery Life, Waterproof Ratings, Brightness, Nightvision Compatibility
The Eotech XPS and EXPS have extremely similar specifications. The only difference will be in their weight.
One of the biggest takeaways to know is that the EXPS2 and the XPS2 are the Non-Nightvision Compatible models, and the EXPS3 and the XPS3 are the Nightvision Compatible Models. If a model is nightvision compatible it also has a better waterproof rating. A nightvision compatible optic can be submerged up to 33 ft and a non-nightvision compatible model can be submerged up to 10ft.

EOTech XPS vs EXPS Which is Better?
Ok so the big question, which is better? Well in our opinion it depends on your situation. Choosing an optic is kind of like choosing a pair of shoes. You have to figure out what specs and features you need, compare it to your budget, and then proceed accordingly.
Objectively speaking, the EXPS model is the more premium option over the XPS model. In our opinion the side mounted buttons are probably the biggest enhancement, but the nice QD mount is also an upgrade.
But this comes at a cost of both money and slightly more weight.
The XPS is still just as reliable and dependable, it just doesn’t have the QD mount or side buttons. Some people also prefer an absolute co-witness over a 1/3 co-witness.
We honestly think either option is a great choice, and we’d really recommend prioritizing what features you want and how important those are. So look at button placement, QD vs non QD, housing color, co-witness height, reticle style, and reticle color, and price, and see which one really lines up best for you.
