Holosun 507COMP - The Future of Competition Shooting

Holosun 507COMP - The Future of Competition Shooting

Ivan Vidic |

Competitive shooters rejoice! Holosun has introduced the 507COMP red dot at SHOT Show 2023, which is their competitive-shooting red dot optic.

We’re going to discuss the new features, like a new reticle system, when it’s coming out, price points, as well as how it compares to some other optics on the market.

This is one of the newest and most sought after optics from Holosun. Comp stands for "Competition" because this optic features a VERY large window, meant for competition shooting. It's the largest window in the industry.

The 507 Comp has some key differences vs the other optics listed here. First it has the C.R.S. which is the Complete Reticle System. This gives it many reticle configurations like a 2 MOA Dot only or a 2 MOA dot + 8 or 20 or 32 MOA Circle or just a 8 or 20 or 32 MOA Circle.

The 507 Comp also does not have a solar panel on it which means there is also no auto brightness setting.

It has a 7075 aluminum housing, shake awake, a side removable battery, manual brightness modes, 10 daylight and 2 nightvision settings, and is IP67 waterproof.

This is a large optic.

So obviously geared toward competition shooters, the 507COMP features a rifle-sized optic made for a handgun. Its large window is 1.1” x 0.87”. The 507C’s window is only 0.63” x 0.91”, so overall that's an increase of 66.93% in the window area.

To complement the window’s enhanced shooting performance, Holosun also has a new Competition Reticle System called the “C.R.S.”. The CRS is an enhanced multi-reticle system with four components including a precision 2MOA dot, an 8MOA circle, 20MOA circle, and a 32MOA circle. There are multiple combination settings that allow you to stack the rings on the reticle as well. So you can have one or you can do multiple to suit the individual shooter’s preference.

Now in my opinion the 8MOA will be hugely popular with fans of the discontinued Holosun 407CO, which also had an 8MOA ring. I’ve seen people mention on forums that they find the 8MOA ring to be more crisp looking than the traditional 6MOA dots. Maybe we’ll do a comparison video in the future. Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see that.

2. Details and specs

As for the battery life, the 507comp also has a 50,000 hour battery life like other Holosun optics. Although unlike the 507C, it does not have a solar panel. Maybe the SHOT Show was a prototype and they’ll come out with solar in the future though. But this optic also has shake awake technology, as well as the ability to remember the last brightness setting when it turns off and on. Although it only has 8 brightness levels - 6 daylight and 2 night vision compatible, whereas the 507C has 12 brightness levels with 10 settings for daylight.

As far as durability goes, the housing is made of 7075 T6 aluminum which is the same as many other optics they have including the 507c. So I’d expect the same ruggedness from this optic as well.

3. Price & Release Date

Image for a release date of Holosun's 507-COMP which is at end of Q2 2023.

As far as price points MSRP pricing will be around $370 for the red dot and $400 for the green dot. Obviously that might change, but it’s what they said at SHOT Show. And as for a release date it’s looking to be at the end of Q2, so at the end of June or the beginning of July. If this is anything like the EPS release though, it might be hard to find for a few months so I'd suggest signing up for email notifications of when it’s going to be in stock at following links below :

4. 507COMP vs. Trijicon SRO

Holosun 507-COMP clashing with competitor's product

The 507comp has a RMR footprint, and as far as market competition goes it has a good shot at being the Trijicon SRO killer. The Trijicon SRO is a popular optic amongst competition shooters, and also has a RMR footprint. It’s window size is 0.98” x 0.89”. It offers a 1MOA dot, 2.5MOA dot, or a 5MOA dot. It only comes in red, and doesn’t offer a green dot counterpart. And it also has a 7075 T6 aluminum housing. It retails for $771.

 So comparing the two:

  • They both have the same footprint so you can put them on any slide that has a RMR cutout,
  • Both are made of 7075 T6 aluminum
  • But the 507comp has a bigger window, enhanced MRS system, is available as a green dot, and is $370 cheaper.

This really is a game-changer for competition shooters and just really anyone who likes a larger optic window.

In conclusion, the Holosun 507Comp is a top-performing optic that is designed to meet the needs of competition shooters. With its large window, multiple reticle options, and long battery life, it's a great alternative to the Trijicon SRO.
