Installed in the Holosun 407K X2 will be a CR1632 battery.
Holosun 407K X2 Mounting Footprint
One of the first things you have to realize about the 407K is that is has a “K” Series mounting footprint aka “modified RMSc” to learn more read our RMSc vs K Series guide here.
I bring this up because some modern day pistols come with the K series footprint, these include the Sig P365, FN Reflex, Canik MC9, Taurus TX22 Compact and others.
But if you have a Springfield Hellcat, S&W Shield Plus, or Glock 43X/48 MOS you will need to use an adapter plate. This means a little bit of extra height which could block your iron sights.
Holosun 407K X2 Screws
Another thing to know about the 407K is the screws. It comes with M4 and M3 screws. If you have a S&W Equalizer, 22 Magnum, or 5.7, the 407K will fit directly on the slide with no adapter plate but you will need to use these screws here because these guns require 6-32 thread pitch, and those screws aren’t included with the 407K.
Holosun 407K X2 Highlights
The 407K is a solid optic. Both figuratively and literally. It’s thick 7075 T6 aluminum housing and square shape makes it one of the most durable optics in the category. Most competitors have 6061 aluminum.
It also has one of the best water proof ratings and is a completely sealed unit. Competitors range from IPX4 to IPX6 while this is IP67 which means it can be submersed in water, while others are only water resistant.
The side mounted battery is also great because you don’t have to remove the optic to change the battery. This means you won't have to rezero the optic when you change batteries. Side note, if you do want to make sighting in your red dot easy we recommend getting this 9mm laser bore sighter.
50K hours of battery life is also class leading, and the super bright LED really is super bright. Cheaper red dot optics can have an LED that gets washed out in bright daylight, but not the 407K.
The price point is also attractive. For the money it’s hard to find an optic that is better featured than the 407K.
Holosun 407K X2 Reticle
The 6 MOA dot on the Holosun 407K X2 is a great size for concealed carry. It’s larger size is easy to pick up upon drawing the weapon, and still small enough to be precise with. A 6 MOA dot means it will take up 6 inches at 100 yards.
It’s not the MRS reticle like the 507K, but for a single dot, 6 MOA is a nice compromise between size and precision.

How to choose between Red vs Green Reticles
This is a long standing question but here are some comments.
- Green reticles are less straining for the eye to see.
- Green reticles can help with astigmatism. If you have astigmatism you will see a blurry dot, we have been told by a few customers that Green dots help with their astigmatism, making the dot look more crisp than the red version.
- Green will not washout on backdrops like green grass, foliage, or green colors.
- In theory Green dots can have a longer battery life because Green is brighter, so for example a green dot on brightness setting 6 may be the same brightness as a red dot on setting 7 - which would save battery life.

Holosun 407K X2 Shortcomings
The only real downside to the 407K is it’s mounting footprint. The K Series mounting footprint is not an issue if you have a K Series slide cut like the Sig P365, FN Reflex, Canik MC9, Taurus TX22 Compact, etc but if you have a Glock 43X/48 MOS, Springfield Hellcat, or S&W Shield plus or anything else with an RMSc footprint then you will need to use the adapter plate.
The adapter plate isn’t very thick, but that extra height will most likely block most of your iron sights on those guns. So that is really the only downside to the 407K is that it has this semi-unique mounting footprint.
Final Opinion
So would we recommend the Holosun 407K X2? Resoundingly yes. For the price point you will not get anything with better features, strength, waterproof ratings, or battery life. I’m not even counting their track record, but there is more Holosun 407Ks out there than probably any other micro pistol optic. So the proof is in the pudding that these are reliable and well built.
Can you find “cheaper” optics out there? Yes, however they will be cheaper because they will not have as many features. They may not have shake awake, they may not be made out of 7075 aluminum, they may not have as good of water proof ratings - if any, they may have dimmer LEDs that wash out in sunlight, and they may not have the track record Holsoun has.
Therefore if you are someone who wants something, durable, reliable, and that you can be confident in, at a reasonable price point, the Holosun 407K X2 might be just the optic for you.
