Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Photo & Video Comparison Guide

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Photo & Video Comparison Guide

Hey Freedom Gorillas today we are going to compare the Holosun 507C X2 and the Holosun 407K X2. We understand that not having hands on experience with each of these optics can make it hard to understand how they are similar and how they are different.

TLDR: The biggest differences between the 507C X2 and the 407K X2 is that the 507C X2 has an RMR footprint, and the 407K X2 has a K-Series footprint. Because of this, many times you can't fit them on the same gun unless you use an adapter plate. Another big difference is the 507C X2 has the MRS reticle and the 407K X2 has a 6 MOA dot.

*Note: Some optics ready pistols have adapter plates or mounting solutions that let you mount the 407C X2 or the 407K X2. Use our fitment guides or adapter plate finder to learn more.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Footprint

The Holosun 507C X2 has an RMR footprint, and the 407K X2 has a K Series footprint, a.k.a. Modified RMSc footprint.

This is why you must know the footprint of your pistol. If you have an RMR footprint the 407K X2 won't fit, and if you have a K series footprint the 507C X2 won't fit.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Size & Intended Use

The 507C X2 is a full size pistol optic, and the 407K X2 is a micro pistol optic. The 507C X2 has a larger window, housing, and is wider.

Because of the size differences and the different footprints, the 507C X2 is intended for use on full size and compact pistols. Whereas the 407K X2 is intended for use on sub compact and micro compact pistols.

Remember to check what footprint your gun has to ensure compatibility with either of these optics.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Size & Window Size Comparison

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Deck Height

The 507C X2 has a larger deck height than the 407K X2. The 507C X2 deck height is around 9MM and the 407K X2 deck height is around 7MM. If you have a slide that could mount both of these, like on the Springfield Echelon, then the 407K X2 would allow you to see more of your iron sights.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Reticles

The 507C X2 and the 407K X2 come in red or green reticle versions. The 507C X2 has an MRS Reticle (Multi Reticle System) and the 407K X2 has a 6 MOA Dot only.

The MRS system is a 2 MOA dot plus a 32 MOA outer ring. The reticle can be toggled to show just the 2 MOA dot, just the 32 MOA outer ring, or both together.

The 407K X2 has a 6 MOA dot only.

Both reticles are nice. The 6 MOA is a good size to be precise and to see the dot. The MRS reticle is nice because it gives you some flexibility.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Battery Life

The 507C X2 has 20,000 hours of battery life on setting 6 using the MRS Reticle, and the 407K X2 has 50,000 hours of battery life on setting 6.

If you toggled the 507C X2 to use the 2 MOA dot only, it would jump to 50,000 hours of battery life.

The 507C X2 also has a solar failsafe. This gives it the ability to work if the battery is dead as long as it is getting ambient or sunlight.

The 507C X2 also has auto and manual brightness modes, whereas the 407K X2 only has manual.

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Similarities

  • They both have shake awake
  • They both have IP67 water proof ratings
  • They both have side removable batteries
  • They are both made out of 7075 T6 Aluminum
  • They are both available in red or green dot versions

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Differences

  • The 507C X2 is more expensive than the 407K X2
  • The 507C X2 has the M.R.S. Reticle (Multi Reticle System) while the 407K X2 has a 6 MOA dot
  • The 507C X2 has a solar failsafe, auto and manual brightness modes, while the 407K X2 has no solar failsafe, and manual brightness mode only
  • The 507C X2 is an RMR footprint, and the 407K X2 is a modified RMSc footprint a.k.a K Series footprint
  • The 507C X2 is a larger optic, it’s wider and has a slightly larger window, it’s intended for use on full size or compact handguns.
  • The 407K X2 is a smaller optic, it’s more narrow and has a smaller window, it’s intended for use on sub compact or micro compact pistols.
  • The 407K X2 is rated at 50K hours of battery life while the 507C X2 is rated at 20K hours of battery life when using the M.R.S. reticle. (If you use the 2 MOA dot only on the 507C X2 it jumps to 50K hours of battery life)

Holosun 507C X2 vs 407K X2 Which is Better?

Well they are both unique in their own way. The first thing you have to do is understand what footprint your pistol has. If you have a pistol with an RMR footprint only then the 407K X2 wouldn’t fit it unless you got an adapter plate like these RMR to K Series adapter plates. And vice versa, if you have an RMSc footprint or K series footprint pistol then you wouldn’t be able to mount the 507C X2 unless you had the proper adapter plate (but those don't really exist).

If you have a pistol that has many adapter plates available and lets you mount either of these optics then I think it comes down to a few things.

First look at your budget. The 507C X2 is almost $100 more expensive than the 407K X2.

Second, do you want the MRS reticle or a 6 MOA dot? The M.R.S. reticle gives you some options, you can use the 32 MOA circle only, the 2 MOA dot only, or the 32 MOA Circle with the 2 MOA dot. The larger 32 MOA circle also makes the reticle a bit easier to pick up when drawing the weapon. And the 2 MOA dot is going to be more precise at distance than the 6 MOA dot.

Third, what type of size window and optic do you want? The 507C X2 usually has slight overhang on the slide, whereas the 407K X2 is usually flush.

Third, do you want the solar failsafe feature and auto brightness modes? If so then the 507C X2 has this and it also has manual brightness mode. The 407K X2 has only manual brightness mode.

Conclusion

Both optics are great and in most situations you will need to get one or the other due to your mounting footprint. However if you have a pistol that allows you to mount either by using different adapter plates then we don’t think you could go wrong with either.

Just take into the consideration the differences above and choose what you think best suits your needs.
