Holosun SCS 320 Review - The Only DeltaPoint Pro Footprint Closed Emitter Optic

Holosun SCS 320 Review - The Only DeltaPoint Pro Footprint Closed Emitter Optic

paul rinaldi |

Hey Freedom Gorillas, today we are going to talk about the Holosun SCS 320. This is one of Holosuns newest full size enclosed emitter optics and it’s a great choice if you are looking for something with DeltaPoint Pro (DPP) Footprint a.k.a. Romeo 1 Pro Footprint. This is also the footprint of the Sig P320 and P226/229 optics ready models.

Fun Fact: The SCS 320 is named after the Sig P320 due to it being a direct fit on an optics ready Sig P320.

We understand that not having these optics in front of it can make it difficult to decide which to get. With this review article we aim to give you more information to help you make the right decision for your use case.

The SCS 320 is available in a green dot only and is $399.99.

It has auto brightness modes only with advanced light sensors, and is essentially a “set it and forget it” type optic.

The reticle can be adjusted to show only the 2 MOA dot, only the 32 MOA outer ring, or both together. To toggle the reticle just hold down the side button until you see the reticle change.

The MRS reticle is nice if you want flexibility. The larger outer ring helps you "find the dot" and the 2 MOA center dot is small and precise.

Holosun SCS 320 Footprint

The Holosun SCS 320 is a DeltaPoint Pro footprint optic. This means it will fit on any DeltaPoint Pro or Romeo 1 Pro slide or adapter plate. It is marketed as being the best direct fit enclosed emitter optic for the Sig P320. Hence the name SCS 320.

Holosun SCS 320 Intended Use

The Holosun SCS 320 is regular sized pistol red dot. This means it is intended for use on any pistol with an DPP footprint or DPP adapter plate. Most of the time this means the pistol will be a full size or compact such as a Sig P320, Springfield Echelon, Glock 19 MOS, or a S&W M&P 2.0. Make sure you know what footprint your gun is before purchasing. The SCS 320 is not intended for and usually will not fit any micro compact pistol like a Glock 43X MOS or Sig P365. For the smaller pistols you want to look at the EPS Carry.

Holosun SCS 320 Review & Highlights

The Holosun SCS 320 is one of the newest pistol optics from Holosun. It is marketed as being made for the Sig P320 however it has a DPP (DeltaPoint Pro) footprint which means it will fit any slide or plate made for a Leupold Delta Point Pro Optic.

The SCS is also part of Holosun’s “Solar Charging Sight” series which is their latest pistol optic technology. It works by having an internally non-removable battery that constantly gets recharged by the solar panel on the optic. This internal battery has a 20K hour power reserve, which means it will last for 20K hours if it never saw light. It also arrives fully charged.

The cool thing, is that the solar panel charges the internal battery faster than the optic consumes battery. Essentially this optic gives you unlimited battery life.

The SCS 320 is an enclosed emitter optic which means it has two panes of glass that fully protect the laser emitter giving you the maximum in reliability.

Open vs Closed Emitter Pistol optics diagram

The SCS 320 also comes with the MRS reticle, is IPX8 waterproof, and is made out of strong 7075 T6 Aluminum.

The 7075 T6 Aluminum housing and square shape make this optic very durable. It has been tested and will withstand drops and abuse with flying colors.

The SCS 320 has an auto brightness mode only, and comes with advanced sensors that sense light both downrange and also ambient light surrounding it. Which means if you are indoors and looking outside into bright sunlight it will adjust accordingly.

The brightness can also be temporarily turned up for 30 minutes by pressing the side button if you ever needed extra brightness.

The one important thing to note is that the SCS 320 does not have “Shake Awake”. We have spoken to Holosun and the intended way to use this optic is to essentially turn it on and keep it on. With a fully charged battery, the optic would work for 2 years if it was kept powered on inside a safe with zero light. If the optic saw light for just one range session it would be enough to recharge the entire thing.

So if you are leaving your gun in places that get sunlight or ambient inside light it will recharge the battery with no problem and nothing to worry about.

The Holosun SCS 320 is a great optic. It’s highly recommended by us for the Sig P320 and also the Springfield Echelon if you are looking for a direct mount optic that is an enclosed emitter. The styling of the SCS 320 also looks great on the P320 and the Echelon.

      Holosun SCS 320 Downsides

The only real “downsides” of the SCS 320 is the fact it doesn't have shake awake or a removable battery or manual brightness. You may view this as a non-issue, however to some people these are important factors.

Our personal experience with the SCS 320 has been great. We find auto brightness very convenient, a non-removable battery is not an issue for us, and keeping it on all the time is totally fine with us since we know the battery is always recharging.

To objectively look at some of these ‘issues’ especially the internal battery, if something were to ever go wrong, it would be covered under warranty. And a battery going bad, would be the same as any other electronic component going bad on any of the other optic on the market.

We think that as more people get used to the SCS “set and forget” it will be more commonplace and accepted by most people.

      Holosun SCS 320 Warranty

Holosun has a limited lifetime warranty. Basically everything is covered for the lifetime of the optic except for the electronics, that is covered for 10 years.

We’ve dealt with Holosuns warranty department and they are easy to deal with.

Also when you purchase from Freedom Gorilla, if you have an issue within 30 days we will replace the optic for you free of charge.

      Conclusion

The Holosun SCS 320 is a great optic. Certainly one of the best on the market in our opinion. We think that once you try the “set and forget” style of the SCS 320 you will really enjoy it. You’ll never have to worry about turning it on or off, changing the battery or having to worry if the battery will work, and will never have to adjust brightness.

We find it to be very convenient, and we believe the technology is reliable.

Also if you have Sig P320 or Sig P220/226/229 with a Romeo 1 Pro Cut, or Springfield Echelon, we certainly recommend this optic if you are looking for a great enclosed emitter optic that matches the styling of the gun and will fit directly on the slide with no adapter plate.

If you have a pistol that comes with a DPP adapter plate or DPP cut slide and want one of the best enclosed emitter optics on the market that will mount with the least amount of hassle, then we also recommend this.
