Holosun 510C Review & Highlights
The Holosun 510C is one of the best selling rifle optics on the market and for good reason. It’s jammed with features, has a nice wide field of view, is durable, and comes in at a very affordable price point.
The nicest thing about the 510C is it’s quick disconnect mount and it’s large window. Looking through the large window is really pleasing. The glass is very clear and you are able to see a lot of target downrange.
The other nice thing about the 510C is it’s solar failsafe features. It has a solar panel so this means you can use it in auto brightness mode if you like, or you can use manual brightness mode as well. The solar panel allows this optic to work even if the battery dies or isn’t in the optic itself. It also has Shake Awake which turns the optic off after 10 minutes of inactivity, and turn it on the moment it senses movement.
The buttons on the 510c are tactile and large and easy to press. The quick disconnect mount is very convenient. Many optics are more expensive that have QD mounts, so the 510c including it standard is a nice value add.
The other cool thing about the 510C is it’s titanium shroud. This means if you were to drop the optic, the titanium outer shroud would act as a sacrificial layer to protect the glass. There is the titanium outer shroud, then the 6061 aluminum housing underneath.
The 510C also has long battery life, rated at 20k hours with the MRS reticle at setting 6 and 50k hours with the 2 MOA dot only. When you have to replace the battery, you just open the battery tray on the side and swap out the battery.
The 510C is great for competition shooters, as the wide FOV allows you to see a lot downrange. It’s also a great option for home defense, hunting, or plinking.
We also like that the 510C is available in red or green reticles, and FDE and black housings. There aren’t many FDE red dots on the market, so having this one in that color is nice. It’s also nice that there is a 510c magnifier combo deal which saves you $35+ if bought together and also comes with the 1/3 co-witness riser.

Holosun 510C Downsides
The biggest downsides to the 510C are it’s weight and the fact it is an open emitter.
It weighs 7.6oz which is a little heavy for a non-holographic red dot sight, however compared to an EOtech it is still about 4oz lighter and is still one of the lightest large window red dots on the market.
The other downside is that it is an open emitter. This means that debris such as mud, dirt, dust, snow, rain, or anything else could get in the way of the emitter and the glass causing problems with accuracy or usability. You can read more about open vs closed emitter optics on our blog post here.
If this is a big concern for you and you still want a large window optic we recommend checking out the Holosun 512T, Holosun AEMS, EOtech's Holographic Red Dot Lineup, Holosun 530 series, and Vortex UH1
Holosun 510C Warranty
Holosun has a limited lifetime warranty. Basically everything is covered for the lifetime of the optic except for the electronics, that is covered for 10 years.
We’ve dealt with Holosuns warranty department and they are easy to deal with.
Also when you purchase from Freedom Gorilla, if you have an issue within 30 days we will replace the optic for you free of charge.
Conclusion
The Holosun 510C is one of the best values on the market when it comes to large window red dots at an affordable price point.
It is an open emitter which is a bit of a weakness, but if you are totally ok with that then it is a great option to mount on your rifle, pcc, or shotgun.
It has a great track record, and everyone we’ve talked to who owns one loves it. Once you look down the optic you will see how nice and pleasing it is to look through!
