HK VP9CC Red Dot Guide: 8 Holosun Optics That Fit Directly

HK VP9CC Red Dot Guide: 8 Holosun Optics That Fit Directly

Mark Dymond |

The Heckler & Koch VP9CC is one of the most anticipated concealed carry pistols from HK, combining the ergonomics and shootability the VP9 series is known for with a slimmer, more carry-friendly design. And since the VP9CC is optics-ready from the factory, one of the first upgrades many owners are looking at is adding a quality red dot.

If you’re trying to figure out which Holosun optics fit the VP9CC, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll break down every compatible Holosun red dot, explain the footprint and mounting setup, cover adapter plate options, and help you decide which optic makes the most sense for your carry style and intended use.

Whether you want a small, low-profile carry optic like the 407K or EPS Carry, or you prefer a larger window for faster target acquisition, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about setting up your VP9CC the right way.

Which Holosun Optics do we recommend for the VP9CC?

Why do we recommend Holosun Optics vs other options?

Holosun optics offer the perfect balance of quality and affordability. Here are a few key reasons why we recommend them:

  • They provide exceptional battery life, and you can change the battery without removing the optic.
  • Available in both red and green reticles, with various sizes and styles to suit your preferences.
  • Built to last, they feature durable 7075 aluminum or titanium housings and high-quality glass.
  • Holosun optics are packed with convenient features like Shake Awake, easy-to-use brightness buttons, and side-mounted batteries for hassle-free maintenance.
  • Many models come with solar panels that keep the optic running even if the battery dies.
  • They are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
  • Known for their reliability, they are waterproof and have a solid reputation in the industry.

When compared to brands like Leupold, Trijicon, Crimson Trace, Burris, Bushnell, or Aimpoint, Holosun optics often stand out for being more affordable while offering more features, longer battery life, and a proven track record with millions of units sold over the past decade.

What optics footprint is the HK VP9CC?

The Heckler & Koch VP9CC uses its own unique optics mounting system rather than a standard footprint. However, HK includes a factory adapter plate for Holosun K footprint and RMSc footprint optics.

That means all compact Holosun K footprint red dots will mount to the VP9CC using the included plate.

Best Modified RMSc Footprint Holosun Optics for the VP9CC

Below are the best Holosun Red & Green dot sights you can mount on your VP9CC.

1. Holosun 407K Green & Red Dot - Best Budget Option

Holosun 407K Red Dot Sight - Affordable, 6 MOA Dot, Lightweight, Shake Awake, 50,000 Hr Battery, Waterproof.

Buy the 407K At The Best Price

This is the most affordable micro optic Holosun makes and is available in a 6 MOA green or red dot.

If you are looking for a single dot optic that is very affordable and great for plinking then this might be the one for you.

The 6 MOA dot is a really nice size. It's big enough to pick up rather easily, but still small enough to be precise with.

It has an aluminum housing, side removable battery, manual brightness controls, shake awake, is IP67 waterproof, and 50,000hrs of battery life.

2. Holosun 507K Green & Red Dot - Best All Around Option

Holosun 507K Green Dot Sight - MRS Reticle, 32 MOA Circle + 2 MOA Dot.

Buy the 507K At The Best Price

The next step up from the 407K is the 507K. This has all the same features like an aluminum housing, side removable battery, manual brightness controls, shake awake, IP67 waterproof, and long battery life but it also has Holosun's Multi Reticle System (MRS).

The MRS Reticle is a 32 MOA Ring with a 2 MOA dot. It's really cool when you look at it - it's similar to an EOtech's reticle if you've ever seen them.

The other cool thing is you can toggle the reticle holding down the "-" for 3 seconds. So if you wanted to, you could use just the 32 MOA Ring, the 2 MOA Dot only, or both the 32 MOA Ring + the 2 MOA Dot.

3. Holosun 507K ACSS Vulcan Green & Red Dot - Best Speciality Option

Holosun 507K ACSS Vulcan Red Dot Sight - 3 MOA Dot, 230 MOA Dotted Outer Ring.

Buy the 507K ACSS Vulcan At The Best Price

Next on the list is the 507K ACSS Vulcan. This is exactly like the 507K except is has the ACSS Vulcan reticle. This reticle has a 230 MOA dotted outer ring and a 3 MOA center dot.

The purpose of this reticle is to help you find the center dot quickly if you are off center. To learn more about the ACSS Vulcan reticle check out our article here.

The dotted outer ring can be turned off by holding down the "-" button for 3 seconds.

The main advantage of the ACSS Vulcan reticle is to be able to find the center dot quickly when drawing the pistol.

All the features are the same as the 507K except for the reticle, and this is available in both red & green.

4. Holosun EPS Carry - Closed Emitter Option - Best Enclosed Emitter Option

Holosun EPS Carry Green Dot Sight - MRS Reticle, 32 MOA Circle + 2 MOA Dot, Enclosed Emitter.

Buy the EPS Carry At The Best Price

The EPS Carry is very similar to the 407K and 507K except it has one major difference, it is an enclosed emitter optic. This means the laser emitter is protected by a hood. So dirt, mud, or debris will never get in the way of the emitter to distort the reticle. It also has the highest waterproof rating at IPX8.

There are 3 versions of the EPS Carry. The 2MOA, 6MOA, and MRS Versions

The MRS version has a solar panel on it which acts as a solar fail safe to power the reticle of the battery dies. It also gives you an extra auto brightness feature which can be toggled on or off.

    5. Holosun SCS Carry Green Dot - Best Solar Recharging Option

    Holosun SCS Carry

Buy the SCS Carry At The Best Price

The SCS Carry is similar to the EPS Carry in that it is an enclosed emitter, except it features Holosun's latest "Solar Recharging Technology".

It has an internal rechargeable battery with theoretical unlimited battery life. The battery has a 20K hour power reserve which is constantly being recharged. The optic charges the battery faster than it consumes. It has the MRS (multi reticle system) and is available in green dot only. You can use the 2 MOA dot, 2 MOA Dot + 32 MOA Circle, or 32 MOA Circle only.

This model doesn't have Shake Awake like the others, but recommend from Holosun, you just leave it on and it will stay on. It is constantly recharging from natural and artificial light sources. It does have a power off button if you wanted to turn it off.

This optic is a great option if you are looking for something super sleek, and where you never have to worry about batteries. Just turn it on and keep it on!

    6. Holosun EPS Core – Enclosed RMSc Large Window Optic

    Holosun EPS Core Collection

Buy the Holosun EPS Core At The Best Price

Built around the RMSc footprint, the EPS Core is a direct-fit option for many modern concealed carry pistols that accept RMSc-style optics with no adapter plate needed!

The EPS Core is available in two configurations. The 3 MOA dot model is a simplified version with manual brightness controls only and no solar panel. The MRS (Multi-Reticle System) version adds a 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or Circle-Dot reticle along with a solar panel and automatic brightness adjustment.

Power comes from a side-loading CR1620 battery tray, allowing battery replacement without removing the optic or losing zero. Battery life is rated up to 50,000 hours on the dot-only setting at brightness level 6.

The enclosed emitter design protects the LED from rain, dust, and lint—making the EPS Core a strong choice for concealed carry pistols that may see daily use.

The optic is built from 6061 aluminum and features Holosun’s proven durability along with long battery life and a clear enclosed sight picture in a compact carry-friendly footprint.

    7. Holosun AEMS Micro – Enclosed RMSc Square Window Optic

Buy the Holosun AEMS Micro At The Best Price

The Holosun AEMS Micro is a compact fully enclosed pistol red dot built around a true RMSc footprint, making it a direct-fit option for many modern concealed carry pistols without requiring an adapter plate.

The optic features a 0.71 x 0.71 inch square window, providing a generous sight picture for a micro optic while keeping the overall footprint compact for slim carry guns.

The AEMS Micro is available with Holosun’s Multi-Reticle System (MRS), allowing you to switch between a 2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or Circle-Dot reticle. Reticle color options include Red, Green, or Gold.

Power comes from a CR1620 battery and delivers up to 70,000 hours of runtime on the dot-only setting at brightness level 6.

The enclosed emitter design protects the LED from rain, dust, and lint, making the AEMS Micro a strong choice for concealed carry pistols that may see daily use.

The optic is constructed from 7075 aluminum and combines durable enclosed performance with a compact footprint and a clear square viewing window.

    8. Holosun EPS Red or Green 6MOA, 2MOA, MRS - Best All Around Large Window Closed Emitter

*Note: To install this optic you must purchase these EPS Screws. The EPS Full Size only comes with 6-32 screws and you need to use M4 screws to install it on the VP9CC. Just note that this optic will overhang on the slide as it is meant for larger frame platforms like the full sized VP9.

Buy the EPS At The Best Price

Note: If you plan on mounting the EPS Full Size to the VP9CC slide you will need these screws because the Holosun ones are 6-32 and you need M4 screws.

Last but in no way the least is the Holosun EPS. This is Holosun’s latest closed emitter optic and is made out of aluminum. It is a larger version of the EPS Carry, which means it also has a larger window. However, it will also overhang on the slide because it is really meant for larger frame platforms like the full size VP9.

These EPS models come in red, green, or gold and either a 2MOA, 6MOA, or MRS Reticle. The MRS Reticle has a solar failsafe and auto brightness mode, the others do not.

Choosing between Red or Green Reticles

You might be wondering whether to choose a red or green dot reticle. This is a common question we get, so here are a few key points to help you decide:

    • Green reticles are generally easier on the eyes and less straining to see.
    • If you have astigmatism, a green dot may appear crisper. Some customers with astigmatism have reported that green dots are clearer for them than red dots.
    • Green reticles will not washout into backgrounds like grass, foliage, or other green environments.
    • Green dots can offer better battery efficiency. Since green is naturally brighter, a green dot on brightness setting 6 may be as bright as a red dot on setting 7, potentially extending battery life.

If you want to learn more check out our full article about Red vs Green Dot Pros & Cons here.

Choosing between Open vs Closed Emitters

When deciding between an open and closed emitter, it’s important to consider how and where you'll carry your VP9CC.

If you anticipate being outdoors in challenging conditions like rain, snow, or sleet, a closed emitter offers added protection and reliability. For those carrying outside the waistband (OWB) and spending a lot of time outdoors, a closed emitter provides extra peace of mind in harsh weather.

On the other hand, if you primarily carry inside the waistband (IWB) or won’t be frequently exposed to heavy rain or snow, an open emitter will work just fine.

While open emitters can still perform well in the elements, the closed design gives an extra layer of durability. Keep in mind, open reflex sights can collect dust or debris inside the reticle over time, so regular cleaning is necessary. A closed emitter, however, tends to be easier to maintain when it comes to cleaning.

How to decide which reticle style is best for you

In this guide we covered a few different reticle options. If you need some help deciding which is best for you here are some of our thoughts on each.

      • 2 MOA only : This dot is quite small which makes it precise. The downside is that it can be hard to “pick up” upon drawing the weapon. If you are experienced shooting red dot sights on pistols then this may not be an issue for you. If you are new, we recommend you practice “finding the dot” at home to become proficient. If you can train your muscle memory to find the dot then 2 MOA is a great choice.
      • 6 MOA only : This dot is decently larger than the 2 MOA dot. We classify this as more user friendly than the 2 MOA dot as it’s a bit easier to pick up upon drawing. The 6 MOA dot will not be as precise as the 2 MOA dot at long distances (50+ yards) but it is still plenty accurate at all distance ranges. The 6 MOA dot is a nice size and it gives you a less cluttered reticle. Some people prefer it over the MRS.
      • MRS Reticle (32 MOA Ring + 2 MOA Dot): This reticle is a good combination of both large and small. You have the 2 MOA dot to be precise with, and the 32 MOA Ring to help “find the dot”. The 32 MOA Circle is quite hard to miss. The nice thing about this reticle is the flexibility. You can use the 32 MOA Ring only or the 2 MOA dot only or both together. This way you can find what you prefer and stick to it.
      • ACSS Vulcan with 3 MOA Dot and 230 MOA Dotted Outer Ring : This reticle is going to have a 3 moa dot and the 230 MOA dotted outer ring. The outer ring is only visible when the dot is not centered. The purpose is to help you find the dot quicker upon drawing the weapon. The 3 MOA dot give you a slightly larger dot than the 2 MOA dot, but it’s not that noticeable. The real value to this reticle is the outer ring and it’s assistance with helping you get on target faster by quickly adjusting your grip to “find the dot”

      Conclusion

The Heckler & Koch VP9CC is shaping up to be an excellent concealed carry platform, and the included Holosun K / RMSc plate makes adding a red dot simple. Whether you want an affordable open emitter like the 407K, a feature-packed option like the 507K, or a premium enclosed emitter like the EPS Carry or SCS Carry, there are plenty of excellent Holosun options that fit the VP9CC well.

For most users, the EPS Carry or 507K will probably be the sweet spot, offering a great balance of window size, durability, and carry-friendly dimensions. If you prefer larger windows, optics like the EPS Full Size or AEMS Micro are also options.

At the end of the day, the best optic comes down to how you plan to use your VP9CC and which features matter most to you. Hopefully this guide helped narrow things down and made the footprint and compatibility side less confusing. And if you still have questions, feel free to reach out!
